New Motor Vehicle Sales

New motor vehicle sales is a measure of the number of new motor vehicles sold, including: trucks, vans, coaches, buses, minivans, sport utility vehicles, and other passenger cars. It is an indicator of consumer spending and is closely tied to consumer confidence. The decision to purchase a vehicle showcases individual's outlook about the current and expected future state of the economy.

Highlights

  • On a seasonally-unadjusted basis, New Motor Vehicle Sales in Saskatchewan decreased by 3.7 per cent in May 2019, compared to May 2018.  Saskatchewan ranked third in percentage change among the provinces. 
  • In the first five months of 2019, New Motor Vehicle Sales in Saskatchewan decreased by 1.3 per cent, compared to the same period in 2018.  Saskatchewan ranked second among the provinces in percentage change.
